Ahmadinejad meets Turkish leaders in Istanbul

12:00GMT—7:00AM/EST

Washington, 9 November (WashingtonTV)—Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad held meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Sunday.

Ahmadinejad was in Istanbul to attend an economic summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The three-day summit opened on Sunday.

During his talks with the Turkish leaders, Ahmadinejad discussed regional and bilateral issues, and called for further cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian president underlined that Tehran and Istanbul have the same interests, according to the office of the president.

Ahmadinejad listed trade, transportation, energy and investment as areas for further cooperation, reports the semi-official ISNA news agency.

For his part, Erdogan called for greater bilateral economic and political relations with Iran.

Erdogan paid an official visit to Iran last month, during which he defended Iran’s right to nuclear energy and accused Western powers of treating Tehran unfairly over its nuclear program.
